The American Newspaper Guild National Convention Was Held in Pittsburgh the Week of Pittsburgh June 24, 1951: Women and Children First Is Slogan For Special Convention Committee

Mrs. Beatrice Saunders who is the Mother of Black Buzz and Thomas J. Saunders, Jr., was the first African American female in the United States to be treasurer of a National Union, that being the Pittsburgh Local of the American Newspaper Guild.  Note that Mrs. Saunders sat on the executive board of the Pittsburgh Local of the American Newspaper Guild.  Also, Mrs. Saunders was chairman of the Pittsburgh Courier Unit of the Pittsburgh Local of the American Newspaper Guild.
